Connect Horizon with Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

Generate an MCP token and connect it to your AI of choice to ask about your portfolio.

Horizon implements the open MCP standard (Model Context Protocol). It is a remote server with separate read and write permissions: ChatGPT can connect through OAuth, while other clients may ask for a manual Bearer token. With write permission, the AI can add and edit transactions and import CSVs; it cannot delete an entire portfolio.

1. Choose the connection method

  1. For ChatGPT, use the OAuth flow below — you do not need to create or copy a token manually.
  2. For clients that ask for Bearer authentication, go to Settings from the avatar menu, find the MCP connector section and click New token.
  3. Give the token a name (e.g. “Claude” or “Cursor”) and copy it. It's only shown once: if you lose it, revoke it and create another.

2. Add the connector in your AI

Use Horizon's remote MCP URL. ChatGPT is web-only for custom MCP apps and uses OAuth when available; use the manual token only when the client explicitly asks for Bearer authentication.

ChatGPT (web)

  • Settings → Apps → Advanced Settings → enable Developer mode, if available for your account or workspace.
  • Settings → Apps → Create (workspace admins can use Workspace settings → Apps → Create).
  • URL: https://horizon.federlabs.com/api/mcp
  • Choose OAuth, click Scan Tools, then sign in to Horizon and choose whether to approve read-only access or also transaction changes.
  • Open a new chat and select the draft app from the tools menu, or mention Horizon in your prompt.

Claude (Desktop or web)

  • Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  • URL: https://horizon.federlabs.com/api/mcp
  • Use OAuth if Claude offers it; otherwise choose Bearer token and paste the hzn_… token generated in Horizon.

Cursor, Windsurf, Zed

Each editor has its own MCP settings section. Add a remote server with the same URL. If it asks for authentication, choose Bearer token and paste the hzn_… token generated in Horizon.

3. Try it

Ask your AI things like “how's my portfolio doing this month?” or “how much did I earn in dividends in May?”. You'll see it answer with real data.
